I could treat a Windows VM window in Parallels as if it were a Remote Desktop window. Parallels simply worked better than VMware for me (and miles better than VirtualBox in both UI and performance).

In VMware, it has a "gaming mode" that accelerates the mouse cursor correctly, matching 1:1 movement with how it is on the Mac desktop, but it locked the cursor in the VM window, requiring me to press a key combination to unlock the cursor any time I wanted it back on the Mac side. I could drag my mouse cursor from my Mac desktop to the Windows desktop and back out, seamlessly, without any lag, delays, or the cursor no longer matching 1:1 to my movement. I then tried Parallels, and was really impressed at how much better it worked. I tried VirtualBox, and performance & overall experience was pretty bad (vs. Mostly mouse cursor tracking wasn't 1:1 with VMware in a way that I was expecting. I use to only use VMware, but wanted to try other stuff due to some interface and performance issues I was having with it.
